Abstract

I read with great interest the article by Riva et al., who examined a glomerular filtration rate (GFR) with the Cockroft-Gault formula in 148 female adolescents with the restrictive type of anorexia nervosa (AN) [1]. The authors handled 40 patients at stage 1, 88 patients at stage 2, 17 patients at stage 3A and 3 patients at stage 3B of kidney function at admission. This means that only 20 patients presented GFR under 60 ml/min/m2. Although they mentioned that kidney damage was frequent in adolescents with restrictive-type AN, the data presented mild-to-moderate kidney dysfunction in patients at admission.
