Abstract

In this paper, i conclude an overview about the results of the urban environmental history in the last decades. Due to the global ecological crisis, the cities appear as an area with an increased level of energy and material consumption. Are there productive strategies that can convert the city in a sustainable model of production? Around the world, experiences are recovering the cities as agrarian production area, defining the urban ecosystem as more sustainable projects. In this sense, the second part of the article present the results of urban agrarian experiment in Habana (Cuba). This kind of agriculture has allowed securing the standard of urban food supply and producer sovereignty in the urban context. It was an exceptional measure to resolve the problems of supply for Cuban Economy but it became the city in a more socioenvironmental sustainable urban mode of production.
