Abstract

Recently, we read the report “Does the Surgery-First Approach Produce Better Outcomes in Orthognathic Surgery? A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis” by Yang et al 1 Yang L. Xiao Y.D. Liang Y.J. et al. Does the surgery-first approach produce better outcomes in orthognathic surgery? A systematic review and meta-analysis. J Oral Maxillofac Surg. 2017; 75: 2422-2429 Google Scholar in the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with great interest. In their meta-analysis, they assessed the current evidence on stability, efficacy, and surgical results of a surgery-first approach (SFA) versus a conventional 3-stage method (CTM) orthognathic surgery. The results showed that the SFA group benefited from a shorter total treatment duration and similar postoperative stability. However, we have several queries, as follows.
