Abstract
Abstract The prevalence of sink contamination with multi-drug resistant bacteria (MDR) is high. Some MDR can persist during several months and even several years in sink drains. Nevertheless, the risk of transmission to MDR from sinks to hospitalized patients seems to be low. Concurrently, agressive chemical treatments can be deleterious for the integrity of hospital plumbing. The risk of contamination of sinks' surroundings by splashing should be considered when designing patient room in future intensive care settings, in a perspective of not disinfect but protect strategy.
