Abstract

In this work, a low radar cross section (RCS) wideband antenna array is proposed through array-level scattering cancellation. Two types of Vivaldi antenna elements with the same radiation performances and different scattering phase are developed. With these two types of elements, a low scattering Vivaldi antenna array (16×16) is proposed in a chessboard configuration. A reference array with a single type of antenna element is also developed. For radiation, both antenna arrays operate over 8–12 GHz and have similar performances. For scattering, the proposed Vivaldi antenna array achieves an average of 10 dB monostatic RCS reduction over 6–18 GHz under normal incident waves, illustrating the effectiveness of the proposed RCS reduction technique.
