Copyright: Felix Kandelhard Anionic polymerization is an established method for the synthesis of block copolymers. Due to the high reaction rates, a good knowledge of the process and its heat generation is of great importance for safe reaction control. The developed model, validated based on the block-co-polymerizations of styrene and isoprene, enables a prediction of the temperature profiles and the molecular weight distributions of the synthesized polymer. As a tool to identify the influence of various process parameters and the composition of the reaction mixture on the polymerization, it can be very useful in the optimization of anionic batch polymerizations.
