Abstract

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the ductility of reinforced concrete beams subject to shear failure after flexural yielding. The specimen parameters used for the evaluation include the yield strength and quantity of lateral reinforcement; concrete strength; and cyclic loading pattern. The study reveals the relationship between the shear deformation of plastic hinge regions and the deterioration of strengths of members, and quantify the effects of lateral reinforcement of members after flexural yielding. It is also found that the ductility (plastic deformation capacity and energy absorption capacity) of members can be appropriately evaluated by the shear strength safety margin.
