Abstract

This paper presents an RC filter network as an alternative to the standard integrator circuit used for data collection in CT scanners. It compares the two circuits for noise and resolution performance under the assumption of constant total x‐ray dose. The RC circuit exhibits great versatility in its ability to trade off resolution for a lower noise‐to‐signal ratio as a function of the time interval of data collection. The integrator circuit has a noise and resolution relationship which is fixed for a constant x‐ray dose.
