Abstract
Abstract Reaction of Rb2CO3 with Te in Methanol at 160 °C in the presence of Ge yields the polytellu ride RbTe6, the structure of which has been determined by X-ray structural analysis. The polyanions 2 ∞[Te6 -] contain Te6 rings with a chair conformation, which are connected via four Te-Te bonds into a layer structure. A T structure is exhibited by the resulting TeTe3 units. The Rb cations adopt positions between neighbouring parallel anion layers and are surrounded by 12 Te atoms in their first coordination sphere.
