Abstract

The effects of nonvertical propagation on high-altitude topside sounder data reduction are investigated. Although the extraordinary, ordinary, and Z rays exhibit significant lateral deviation in a spherically stratified ionosphere, the resultant effects on analysis accuracy are generally tolerable; however ionospheric tilts produce very large effects. The joint use of the three modes for future analyses is suggested.
