Abstract

Abstract Conceptual research on processing nuclear waste through nuclear transmutation method with γ-ray irradiation is introduced in this paper. The γ ray used to irradiate the nuclear target is produced through Compton backscattering. A preliminary experiment is being performed on the NewSUBARU storage ring, which can provide electron beams with energy of 1 GeV. A 17.6-MeV γ ray will be generated from our experimental setup. A promotion scheme for increasing the γ-ray flux by using a super cavity is also presented, and the electron beam deformation induced by repetitive collisions is explored. PACS codes: 07.85.FV
