Abstract

Rawfolds (“HOLLOWS”) MILL was the historic mill which so gallantly withstood the attack of the Luddites on the night of Saturday, April 11th, 1812. It was situated on the road between Heckmondwike and Cleckheaton and was a stone-built structure. It was entirely destroyed by fire over 30 years ago, and a much larger brick building erected on the site. This also has been burnt down and now no trace of the original mill remains, a large shed used for the wire-making business carried on there having since been built.
