Abstract

The use of simulations at the different development cycles of technically complex machine designs has been analyzed on the aerodynamic designing as an example. The stage of sharing numerical and physical modeling has been highlighted. By comparing as an example numerical simulation of compressible fluid flow and wind tunnel tests, the need to shift the emphasis of the modeling from the physical to the numerical is justified, both in terms of the modeling results credibility and on the cost of these results obtaining. It would provide achievement of the technical solutions stipulated quality and significantly decrease terms and cost of project implementation.
