Abstract

A simple noise-exposure rating scheme is proposed—the equal energy concept based on dB(A) and summated time. A suggested formula for summating time at various dB(A) levels is proposed. The formula makes it convenient to summate the levels in terms of a no-risk reference level. No specific exposure level is suggested. Rather, a series of dB(A) levels at 5-dB increment, with the associated risk of hearing impairment, are presented, together with the background material upon which this proposed rating scheme is based.
