Abstract

Abstract Using two groups of Ss (young and elderly) in a simple discriminatory response task involving stimuli with known information content, measurements were made of “time required to know” and “time required to act”. Maximum rates of information acceptance (MIA) and executive response (MER) were calculated and compared. Results from the two groups were mutually confirmatory. MIA was found to be considerably greater than, and negatively correlated with, MER, but MER was shown to correlate positively with WAIS Performance scores.
