Abstract

This paper studies the performance of rateless space time block code (RSTBC) in massive multiuser MIMO systems with antenna element failure. The paper illustrates the basis for rateless space time codes deployments in massive MIMO transmission over wireless erasure channels, where packets may get lost or are not decodable at the receiver due to antenna element failure. Since a large number of antenna elements are deployed in massive MIMO systems, there is always a possibility of failure of some antenna elements, which may degrade the system performance significantly. The results show that RSTBC guarantees the reliability of the system in such cases even when the failure rate is 25%. Simulation results are provided to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed scheme.
