Abstract

A rate-equation-based thermal VCSEL model is established, which allows simulation in the non-dc operating regimes, namely, small-signal and transient modulating condition. The model is apt to implement in conventional SPICE-like circuit simulators, including PSPICE, and used to simulate key features of VCSEL. Due to the potentially large number of devices involved in optoelectronic system design, and the associated need for compact optoelectronic device models, the authors believe this VCSEL model is valuable. Making use of this model in the circuit-lever EDA design, we developed the transceiver circuit of Gigabit Ethernet.
