Abstract

The rate constant for the reaction H +H 2O 2→ OH+H 2O was newly determined to be 3.5×10 7 dm 3 mol −1 s −1 by observing the Cl 2 − absorbance in pulse radiolysis experiments involving very pure acidic aqueous solutions of chloride ions and hydrogen peroxide. A reaction mechanism for the generation of Cl 2 − is described.
