Abstract

The CH 3O 2 radical was generated by pulsed laser photolysis and was detected directly by photoionization mass spectrometry. The radical was photoionized by the Ar resonance lines (11.62 and 11.83 eV) and detected as the parent ion, CH 3O + 2. Reactions of CH 3O 2 and CD 3O 2 with NO were studied by time-resolved measurements of the radical ion signals. The following rate constants were obtained at 298±5 K: k (CH 3O 2 + NO) = (11.2 ± 1.4) × 10 −12 cm 3 molecule −1 s −1 and k (CD 3O 2 + NO) = (10.9 ± 1.3) × 10 −12 cm 3 molecule −1 s −1. The values are 50% larger than those previously reported.
