Abstract

1. The reaction of atomic oxygen with acetaldehyde was studied under conditions in which the principal reaction products were addition products-acetic acid and glycollic aldehyde. 2. The activation energy and the absolute value of the rate constant for the reaction of atomic oxygen with acetaldehyde were measured. 3. In the pressure range 1–3 mm of Hg the rate constant of the reaction of atomic oxygen with acetaldehyde was that of a constant bimolecular process.
