Abstract

Wireless packet transmission requires an adaptive error control coding scheme that can accommodate varying code rate and very low FER requirements for high data rate transmission. Serial concatenated convolutional codes (SCCC) can provide lower FER performance than parallel concatenated convolutional codes (PCCC) in the region of moderate-to-high SNR because SCCC shows little error-flooring problem. This paper proposes a rate compatible punctured SCCC (RCPS) and RCPS-HARQ system to achieve adaptive and high reliable error control coding, and presents their performance on AWGN and multipath Rayleigh fading channels. Comparative results with rate compatible punctured PCCC (RCPP) and an example of a W-CDMA system are also given.
