Abstract

Term fetal meconium is passed in response to acute hypoxic stress, in association with fetal brain and placental release of the stress hormone CRF. To determine if CRF induces meconium passage by stimulation of fetal gastrointestinal motility, we first sought to determine the presence of CRF receptors (CRF-R1, CRF-R2) in the fetal GI tract by immunohistochemical and biochemical techniques.
