Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop and search of physical education perception measurement scale(PEPMS) for middle school students using Rasch rating scale model. Establishing content and face validity, 19-item and 5-point rating scale were generated. The scale was administered to 598 middle school students. The Rasch measurement computer program, WINSTEPS was used to analyze the data. Model fit was decided by Infit and Outfit index (≥.50 and ≤1.50). The results provided that the 4-point rating scale was more appropriated than the 5-point rating scale. The conditional probability curve and the step calibration index increased step by step (-2.19 .08 2.11). The 6-item of the 19-item were selected as the DIF between gender, and the one item had over standard item fit (infit=1.52, outfit=1.41). The results indicated that 12 items were finally selected as the PEPMS for middle school students. Item, person map was utilized to search that ability and i tem difficulty matching in same scale and determined by person & item separation index (≥2.00) and person & item separation reliability index (≥0.80). These were all satisfied the standard criterion. This study developed PEPMS for middle school students that constructed 12-item and 4-point rating scale. In addition, the newly constructed this scale for middle school students should be validated to increase the evidence based on external validity.
