Abstract

The creation of a DataBank and computer-mapped atlas for the rare plant taxa of Emilia-Romagna region is reported, more than 20,000 records providing detailed information on 170 taxa. For each taxon a computerized geographical distribution map can be readily plotted on the grid of the Atlas of the Central European Flora. Its main findings include a list of taxa which are becoming rare or extinct and the identification of areas with a wealth of rare species, whose conservation is recommended. The DataBank will be employed by the Regional Authority as a planning and monitoring tool for environmental conservation.
