Abstract
Objectives: Case report Methods: Clinical case Results: A 53-year-old man was referred to our center with the history of recurrent right parotid mass. In May 2003 he presented with a firm right mandibular condyle mass. Fine-needle aspiration biopsy at the time of presentation was inconclusive. Computer tomography (CT) scan showed a large calcified mass originating in the right mandible condyle and extending superior into the inferatemporal fossa. The patient had an incisional biopsy of the right mandibular mass. Histopathological examination was consistent with gout vs pseudogout. Conclusion: Gout is a benign disease that is characterized by a deposition of monosodium urate crystals in the joints or soft tissue. Gout manifestations in head and neck region are uncommon. The case in this report represents an atypical manifestation of gout in mandibular bone. Few case reports of tempromandibular joint (TMJ) gout exist in the literature. A summary of the literature will be presented.
