Abstract
Rare earth elements were determined by isotope dilution method for calc-alkali andesite from Hakone volcano and for tholeiitic basic andesite, tholeiitic andesite and calc-alkali andesite from Iwate volcano. Using previously reported REE data for tholeiitic basalt and andesite form Hakone volcano, petrogenetic relationships between tholeiitic andesite and closely associated calc-alkali andesite were discussed. The REE data suggest that tholeiitic andesite and associated calc-alkali andesite were derived from a common parental magma. However, associated calc-alkali andesite is considered to have been affected by slight contamination. The slight contamination could not widely change the original REE pattern of the parental magma.
