Abstract

Multiferroicity of rare-earth manganite materials that have been developing so fast especially due to the engrossing discovery of correlation of magnetization with spin currents. Multiple functionalities exhibited by the rare earth manganites and the modification of the manganites structure and composition to induce multiferroicity are having a paramount role in utilizing these materials in the application of novel devices. The colossal magnetoresistance, magnetic properties, and electric properties in one single material make rare-earth manganites unique materials with multiple functionalities. The multiferroicity of these materials is the key to the next generation of magnetic memory devices, magnetic sensors and transistors, and many more to explore. This chapter briefly describes the basic structure and structure correlated magnetic properties, the origin of multiferroicity in pure and doped perovskite rare-earth manganites. The application of these materials in diverse fields has been detailed. These regimes of materials that potentially impact the advancement of magnetoelectric-based devices in consumer electronics, health care, and military systems require intensive research to unveil their various unexplored properties. The knowledge about the recent developments in the modification of magnetic properties based on the structural aspect is significant to explore novel properties and applications of multiferroic rare-earth manganites.
