Abstract

It was suggested that quietening of existing vehicles could be difficult, but solutions are usually available, although their implementation is a matter of economics. Assessment of a design from drawings was thought by some to be even more difficult, but others felt that this was a matter of experience. Given the right priorities from the start quiet vehicles can be designed. The main problem on goods vehicles now appears to be the effective reduction of low frequency structure-borne noise and this is a matter of current research.
