Abstract

The article focuses on teaching English speech rhythm, which makes an important part of phonetics as a systematic study of human communicative capacities. The article covers the reasons for giving more attention to rhythm in teaching English and the specific characteristics of English speech rhythm that make it “look” different from the Russian manner of talking. We also present a method of training the rhythmic patterns of modern English street discourse in the English classroom, using the example of “The Message”, a hit released by an American hip hop band “Grand Master Flash and the Furious Five” in 1982.
