Abstract

A new phenylboronic acid functionalized reduced graphene oxide probe (BA-FITC@rGO) for detecting the sialic acid (SA) is synthesized by a simple and cost-effective method. First, fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC) and 3-aminophenylboronic acid (BA) were combined to obtain a compound BA-FITC. Second, rGO was added to get the probe (BA-FITC@rGO). Then, this probe was used to detect the SA content in a buffer of pH = 7.40 by spectra analysis. BA-FITC@rGO can be used to detect whether the SA content is normal according to SA threshold in normal human serum. With high sensitivity and excellent specificity, this spectral method provides an attractive and novel idea for rapid detection of SA in body's blood serum.
