Abstract

Abstract A simple and reliable screening test, helpful in detecting low plasma pseudocholinesterase level and pseudocholinesterase variants, is described. The test depends upon the different reactions of variants of the enzyme in the hydrolysis of butyrylthiocholine. The results of the screening test using sera with different variants is presented, and this result is compared with already established criteria used to assess phenotypes.
