Abstract

Cytoskeletal motors travel according to an overall traffic pattern set by the architecture of their cytoskeletal tracks. However, the extent to which cells dynamically reorganize their traffic patterns in response to signaling events is currently unclear. To investigate cytoskeletal motor rerouting, we used the immune cells as a model system. When a T cell encounters an antigen presenting cell, a new actin network is constructed in the T cell at the site of contact. This structure, the immunological synapse (IS), forms within minutes.
