Abstract

Cubitus varus deformity is a common complication of supracondylar fractures of the humerus in children. The deformity is usually a result of malunion which includes medial tilting, extension and internal rotation. Several techniques for corrective osteotomy of the distal humerus have been described, including a lateral closing wedge, a step-cut lateral closing wedge and arc osteotomy, with various fixation methods. Understanding the components of the deformity is important to the surgical correction. The normal radiographs in both antero-posterior and lateral views give little insight into the bone geometry in all three dimensions, especially the geometry of the cortex at the potential plane of osteotomy.
