Abstract

Previous phytochemical analyses of crude extracts of Vanda coerulea Griff ex. Lindl (Orchidaceae) have led to the identification of stem-specific metabolites. The three most concentrated stilbenoids (imbricatin, methoxycoelonin and gigantol) displayed complementary biological activities in slowing down the skin cell senescence process and can thus be considered as biomarkers of this orchid species [1]. V. coerulea stem extract is now used in cosmetics for its anti skin ageing effect.
