Abstract

In a new type of microdiffusion unit, 20–280 ng of ammonia is quantitatively transferred from about 100 μl of alkaline sample solution to 60 μl of 0.1 M hydrochloric acid at 50°C within 30 min. The color is developed and the absorbance is measured for the photometric determination of ammonia with hypochlorite and 1-naphthol in the unit. The method is simple, rapid and sensitive. It was successfully applied to the identification of crystalline particulates found on the stages of an Andersen air sampler.
