Abstract

ABSTRACT In an attempt to analyze some strongly cemented sandstones, it was found that the standard sedimentational methods of analysis could not be used. New methods have been developed using the projected image of the sandstone grains for determinations of size, shape, and roundness. It is shown that a very small number of grains, usually less than 50, can be used to give all the parameters of the grain distribution with sufficient accuracy for most purposes. Certain other short-cuts and methods of analysis are also presented.
