Abstract

Rapid methods for the determination of the content of particulate contaminants in light and dark petroleum products do not provide reliable results over a wide range of contaminant content. Maximum allowable levels of particulate contaminate have been established in the low range: 0.0002% for jet fuels; 0.005% in diesel fuels and motor oils. A rapid method for the determination of content by means of a membrane indicator method has been incorporated into the new standard GOST 29064-91 for monitoring the quality of fuels for gas turbine and piston engines. This work was aimed at developing membranes for determining particulate contamination in light and dark liquid petroleum products.
