Abstract

In this letter, a modified matrix pencil method (MPM) is proposed and applied to the failure diagnosis of linear antenna arrays. By sampling the far-field pattern of the impaired array, and considering the locations and excitations of the failed elements as the poles and residues, a noniterative process based on MPM can quickly find the failed elements. The modified MPM can further screen the diagnostic failed elements and correct their estimated locations and excitations to make the diagnosis results more accurate. Numerical evaluation and comparison results demonstrate that the proposed method has good performance in calculation time and robustness to noise.
