Abstract

A case of stylohyoid syndrome is presented in which the rapid development of an elongated styloid process is documented by radiographs taken 1 year apart. The syndrome developed shortly after bone grafting of the right mandibular defect. Placement of osteogenic material in close proximity to the styloid process may have increased its potential for elongation in this case. An extraoral approach was used because previous surgery had rendered the process more presentable to the external surface.
