Abstract

A solvent extraction-acidimetry for the determination of free acid in ferrous sulfate arising from the industrial process has been investigated.Acetone was more suitable solvent than the other solvent. Weigh 5.0 gr of sample in a 100 ml, beaker, add 30 ml of acetone, stand for 5 minutes with occasional stirring, and filtrate the solution in vacuo.Wash the beaker three times with 5 ml of acetone: pour the washer on the residue. Then, wash the residue three times with another 5 ml of acetone. Dilute the filtrate to about 100 ml with water, and add a few drops of mixed indicator. Then titrate with N/5 sodium hydroxide solution. The determination is carried out in a short time; it requires about 10 minutes. This method also have been successfully applied to the determination of free acid in aluminum sulfate.
