Abstract
Determination of the ash content of coal by measuring secondary radiation of samples in three different energy ranges is presented. A simple equipment with proportional counter and a238Pu source of primary X-rays was used. The experiments were carried out using 72 coal samples from various deposits. A mean standard deviation of about 2.5% of ash content was achieved.
