Abstract

The time evolution of singlets, doublets and triplets was measured by single-particle light scattering for a monodisperse hard sphere latex (polystyrene) and a monodisperse soft sphere latex [poly (vinyl acetate)] under conditions of rapid coagulation. The experimental curves were fitted to calculated curves by introducing reversibility into the von Smoluchowski theory by variation of the coagulation and deaggregation constant. It was shown that the coagulation constant was independent of the initial particle number.
