Abstract

1. Connective tissues of the joint ligaments of spines of sea urchin Diadema setosum and starfish Acanthaster planci changed mechanical properties rapidly and reversibly in response to the factors found in the coelomic fluid of sea cucumber Stichopus chloronotus. 2. Coelomic fluids of 15 other species of echinoderms also contained some factorial which changed mechanical properties of the sea-urchin connective tissue.
