Abstract

A case of CML with some peculiar features is reported. The time from the initial diagnosis (chronic phase stage) until death in blastic crisis was three months. At a time when blood and bone marrow still were compatible with early CML (cytology and karyotypes), nodules consisting of 100% hyperdiploid myeloblasts were found surrounding an area which had contained a large hematoma. The case supports (1) the notion that highly malignant myeloblasts are present from the beginning of CML and (2) illustrates the profound influence which the microenvironment exerts on leukemic cells.
