Abstract

A close correlation was found between the scattering of X-rays (the Rayleigh:Compton ratio) and oil yield as given by Fischer assay for a number of Tertiary Australian oil shales. Based on this relationship, a rapid laboratory procedure was developed, using an X-ray spectrometer, which should be useful in the control of mining and processing of oil shale deposits.
