Abstract

RAPD phenotypic analysis (AMOVA and FCA) allowed to determine three groups among the Picea abies French genetic resources: the Vosges (autochthonous and planted populations), the Alps/Jura and the Southern Alps. The within-population values of gene diversity (He) did not differ significantly. MtDNA analysis at locus mh44 has revealed that one major size variant, characteristic of the Alpine domain, was found in the six autochthonous populations investigated. The planted population showed two additional mtDNA types leading to support the hypothesis of a transfer of material from east of Europe in the late 19th century.
