Abstract

In this paper, we propose a methodology for ranking fuzzy numbers based on both relative relationships and shape characteristics of fuzzy numbers. We introduce the so-called relative fuzzy dominant degree to capture some shape characteristics instead of using an absolute value to represent fuzzy numbers. This measure addresses the dominant level that one fuzzy number is better than others in terms of its position and shape. Then, a ranking procedure is developed to compare different types of fuzzy numbers. The proposed method combines both ranking index and relative relationships of fuzzy numbers. Numerical examples show the differences of the proposed methodology compared to the previous approaches.
