Abstract
Sources of errors in precipitation chemistry data can be detected by nonparametric rank correlation of a measure of analysis error such as the algebraic sum of cations minus anions with the concentrations of each ion. Concentrations of ions which are imprecisely measured or are associated with unmeasured ions will be significantly correlated with the measure of analysis error. This type of analysis is illustrated for one year of NADP precipitation chemistry data from an oceanic, arid continental, and humid continental station.
