Abstract
Let be the space of all upper Hessenberg matrices over a field where is a positive integer greater than . In this paper, linear maps preserving rank- on are characterized, i.e. is a linear rank- preserver on if and only if (i) is an -dimensional rank- subspace or (ii) there exist nonsingular upper Hessenberg matrices and such that for all or for all where with .
