Abstract

Abstract Earlier models for random distributions of dislocation sinks are extended to cover the loss of vacancies during quenching. A model of random spherical-surface sinks is also developed. Results of experimental measurements on platinum wires of two purities and varying dislocation densities are best fitted by the random spherical-surface sink model.
